Volunteer/Youth Speakers Bureau
Alameda County CASA recently launched a media campaign to create awareness in the community about the program and the need for CASAs. One very effective approach to inform the public is through presentations by our advocates and CASA foster youth. CASA has trained CASAs advocates, and current and former foster youth to provide presentations to community organizations, local churches, synagogues and other religious entities, sororities, fraternities, public schools, corporations, etc. Through these presentations, advocates and youth are able to inform the community about the positive impact they can have in the life of a foster child.
CASAs and youth explain the CASA Mission, what the program does, how to become a CASA, the impact of having a CASA, etc. CASAs and their youth tell inspiring stories, including their personal stories of being in foster care, the challenges of advocating for children in an overburdened system, and stories of perseverance and success.
Advocates and youth conduct PowerPoint presentations, show digital stories (video of CASA advocates and youth telling their stories), and hand out brochures and fact sheets. These speakers have a very powerful message…a message that needs to be heard by the people in their community. After listening to the presentation, the audience is given a glimpse of the foster care system, not just of the challenges foster youth face, but also the positive impact that advocates can have in their lives.
Please allow 30-60 minutes for presentations. If you would like to request a speaker, please contact Tara Beckman at 510.618.1957 or tbeckman@acgov.org. You may also complete the form electronically. Please complete the fields below:
